New Business Resources
"If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours." — Henry David Thoreau
The staff at Business Insurance Associates, Inc. has handled the commercial insurance needs of hundreds of new businesses over the last thirteen years, and is ready to provide professional support and service from the first day your business operations begin. BIA is much more then an insurance brokerage, we want to become a trusted and valued member of your professional management team, affording you the time to do what you do best, create, build, design, manufacture, produce, sell, and transform a vision into reality. Consider the following organized steps when preparing to go into business.
1. Create and write out a comprehensive Business Plan.
2. Secure a State of Alaska Business License.
3. Arrange to meet with business banking representative.
4. Open a bank account in the name of your business & inquire on potential financing.
5. Meet with commercial insurance broker.
6. Secure required commercial insurance and/or surety coverages.
7. Secure any additional professional licenses needed.
8. Meet with any other resource representatives (ie. SBA, PTAC, SBDC, etc).
9. Establish bookkeeping system or secure external services.
Note: Contractors are required to have general liability coverage and a contractors bond filed with the State of Alaska before obtaining either a business license or a contractors license. With that in mind, a contractor following the above steps would need to move steps 5 and 6 ahead of steps 2,3 and 4.
